a doctrine that President Nixon created that stated that the U.S. would honor its defense commitments but in the future Asian countries would have to fight their own wars without the large shipment of American troops, like in the Vietnam war that caused Nixon's Vietnamization, to help fight their wars.

Silent Majority:
President Nixon's way of making his Vietnamization plan continue at the gradual process that it was moving at to remove the troops from South Korea, despite the large majority pushing for the quick and large removal of American troops from South Korea by using the Nixon Doctrine as their logic, saying that some Americans still wanted to fight the war.

the mass murdering of Vietnam civilians by American troops in the village of May Lai, that was partially due to the Vietnamization which was removing troops slowly, which disgusted many Americans at home and Nixon's solution was to widened the Vietnam war to Vietnam's neighbor, Cambodia.

a plan that Nixon forced onto construction-trade unions that required them to make a timetable and establish a set of goals on when they were going to hire African Americans onto the job. This may have been partially to drive a wedge into the Union but it also gained African American rights after the defeat of the Jim Crow laws.

a cynical attempt by President Nixon that would hopefully cause him to win the majority in the election of 1972, unlike the minority he won in 1968, by appointing conservatives to the Supreme Court, soft-peddling civil rights, and giving opposition to school busing. President Nixon still applied this strategy after his success and popularity by Earth Day and the Environmental Protection Agency.

a tape that Nixon released that happened to be himself giving orders the CIA to hold back the inquiry of the FBI on the Watergate scandal, proving that he was part of the cover-up of the scandal.

an amendment that was added to the constitution that gave women the same rights as men which led to many cases on discrimination and abortion, lime the Roe v. Wade.

a case that followed the Equal Rights Amendment that was focused on abortion that in the end struck down the prohibition of abortion for now the women had the right to terminate the pregnancy and was protected by the constitutional right of privacy.

a speech given by President Carter, on July 15, 1979, in which he criticized the American people for being to much into material goods which was followed by Carter firing four cabinet secretaries. In the previous month, Carter met with Leonid Brezhnev over SALT II agreements.

a set of agreements between President Carter and Leonid Brezhnev, the Soviet leader at the time, that limited the lethal levels of strategic weapons in both sided arsenals. This was the month before the Malaise Speech.

Iranian Hostage Crisis:
the time Americans were taken hostage, during President Carver's term, in Iran and were put through cruel punishments while Carter was looking for a stable government within Iran to negotiate with but eventually put together a rescue mission which ultimately failed. This caused embarrassment for Carter for the rest of his term as well as the rejection of the SALT II agreements by the Congress.
